    Hi Lynn,

Cover it with Strip Panelling or Tiles?.

    Hi Lynn,

I'm Linda. They now make light weight square ceiling tiles that work wonderful to hide a popcorn ceiling. You could also use various kinds of wood if you like the look of wood on the ceiling. Another possibility would be to skim coat the ceiling but unless you have experience it can be quite a project. Check out the video below.

Just so you know, if it hasn't been painted it can be removed. Please be sure to pick up a test kit to see if it has any asbestos before you start. If you have asbestos, it's better to seal it than to remove. When did our popcorn ceiling, we sprayed it with water and then gently scraped it all off. It can make a mess, but we learned from the pro's who had done it before. We taped thin plastic drop cloths to the top edge of the wall next to the ceiling, then we put more on the floor. When it was time to clean up we just wrapped it all together. It made it easy to clean up the mess. Click below to see how someone else did it. Wishing you the best.

I love my vermiculite ceilings! They really absorb noise. There are thin wood slats covering each seam; I took them down one by one, stained the unpainted side walnut and put them back up with the brown side facing the room. Dark brown and bright white is a favorite of mine and I love it.
