    vacuum several times in ALL directions ... start by moving the furniture out of the way and then vac all in one direction, then turn 90 degrees and vac the 'other way; replace furniture - repeat until you have done the entire room twice! in both directions...

    then use a spot cleaner for high traffic areas that need a bit of a boost --Woolite makes a good product, as do other companies;

    for full carpet treatment, I like plain BAKING SODA ... I put it in an empty green top parmesan cheese jar! and liberally sprinkle the entire carpet, use a broom to work it into the nap of the carpet and let it stay overnight if possible.

    Vacuum the next morning.... and your rugs/carpets will be fresh and cleaner than they were ...

    but every 2-3 years you may want to use a professional service on the less trafficked rooms.

    Hi. You can also use body powder instead of the baking soda. I buy whatever is at the dollar store. Happy Cleaning!

    Sprinkle baking soda over the carpet , let sit awhile, a couple of hours , would be great. Baking soda absorbs odors. Maybe do this a couple of times. If you want to clean it , I found an amazing carpet cleaner called Folex, I got it at home depot for about $6. This stuff gets out ink , rust , red wine. It is meant as a spot cleaner , but can be used in a carpet cleaning machines. When I first moved , I paid for a carpet cleaning service , they did a pretty good job. About 2 years later , I borrowed my sister's carpet cleaning machine , you can rent these at most supermarkets . It worked much better ththe the service !!!
