Painted floors and dogs don't mix well unless you put down coats of a top coat made for the floor paint. That should lengthen the life span of the paint on the floor. I lived in a rental with painted floors, but the didn't bother with a top coat, just put down a thick coat of paint that took nearly three days to dry. Every time I cleaned the floor I took some paint off the floor. They said don't worry about it, but still tried to charge me for repainting six years later when we moved out of the rental. We had three dogs and a cat. High traffic areas were in bad shape.

Hello Debbie, do you have a large dogs? I have a 70 pound dog and I am seeing surface scratches in my traditional red oak hardwood floor finish. I don’t think ia painted finish would last in my house, I regret not getting slate floors.

I have fur babies and wood floors . This is a trick my Mother taught me about wood floors . Wash them with tea water for light floors and coffee water for dark floors . Then get down on your hand and knees and use and old fashioned floor polish and do you floors once a week. Only wash them after with COOL tea or coffee water. People will be amazed at how beautiful your floors will be .

All painted surfaces scratch. The problem with painted vinyl is onced scratched thru, it will peel. Don't do it. Save your money and time for replacement. I have 2 dogs, I know.

Don’t think it’s doable. Waste off time and money in paint. Look into those new vinyl plank flooring boards. I think install is easy and they aren’t terribly expensive. They don’t scratch at all. Extremely durable and look like wood planked floors.
