Don't Toss That Outdated Entertainment Center - Paint It!

Entertainment centers were very popular years ago but many are getting rid of them these days. They are big and bulky and usually have a wood finish. Mine was the typical oak color and VERY heavy.

Several times my DH asked if I wanted to get rid of it, but it was functional and has always been the focal point of our living room. I disliked the finish - I got very tired of the wood look and have been redesigning furniture for a few years, so it was my goal to change the look with paint. I just kept putting it off because it is big and bulky.

A year ago I redid this server, so I decided to paint the entertainment center to match.

Since we decided to replace our carpeting with hardwood, it was the perfect time to redo the entertainment center since we had to move it out of the way for the flooring.

The main body is painted with Benjamin Moore Advance in bright white and the drawers are painted to match the server with lime paint, dried clay, from Pure & Original.

The hardware is original.

Just in time for Christmas!

To see the whole story, go to the link below. New flooring, new (redesigned) furniture and now we're working on putting up new trim that will be the icing on the cake. It doesn't take a lot to transform a room. It just takes initiative and little bit of elbow grease.

Did the wood have a varnish ot glossy finish and if so how did you prepare the wood for the paint? Also did you use a brush or sprayer to apply paint?
