Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

My daughter saw an antique mirror I had stored in my workshop and asked for it. It took a bit to get it prepped because it was extremely filthy. I'm not sure if it was just years of neglect or from a smoker's home, but it took several scrubbings to get it clean enough to prime.

It's super important to properly prep before painting.

I used Sherwin William's gray spray on primer after repairs first and then painted Old Fashioned Milk Paint Sunflower Yellow for the base color.

Then I applied a coat of flat poly, and glazed, dry brushed and painted on General Finishes Bronze Pearl Effects to give it three different detail embellishments.

The detail on the left is glazed, and the details in the middle are dry brushed. The inside detail that surrounds the mirror is painted on and since it's translucent, the original gold shows through just a bit.

To protect it, I sprayed on Rustoleum's clear matte spray.
