Hi June, The best thing I have found is Hot Shot No Pest Strips. You can buy them at Walmart or Lowes and they work really well. They have a hanger on them if you wanted to hang them on the pot.

Simply place a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar, a few drops of dish soap, and a tablespoon of sugar in a bowl and stir. Set your bowl in an area where gnats are prevalent, such as near your plants. This took care of my problem in just a couple of days!

those little pests are almost always due to overwatering. Stop watering for a while. It will kill them. Your plants will recover.
