How do I clean metal birds?
I have two large decretive metal birds in my yard. Over the past year they have lost their glossy shine. I sprayed them with a clear polyethylene spray when they were new but they are now mostly black. Can someone please tell me how to restore them to their original color?

Hi, Martha,
The discoloration is most likely due to weather conditions. If they remain outside all year, you may need to sand and repaint, then apply 4 coats of poly to them. If they are made of steel, they will most likely rust.
Try cleaning them with 50/50 vinegar and water. If that works, rinse. Let dry and respray with clear sealant.
If there is still darkness, you could make a paste of soda with water. Scrub off the dark and then pour the vinegar/ water over it. Rinse after letting the mixture work. Safe for your yard as well!
