How do I create my own closet system for less than $300?

Visit a closet shop or two and any big box home improvement centers for ideas and pricing. It's better if you can see the stuff in person and visualize. I typically take my cell phone or tablet and snap photos and prices so when I go home, I can mull it over and I have all the info. Then decide what to do.
