How do I hang a heavy mirror?

we had a similar project a year ago. We had a heavy and valuable clock to hang. First my husband determined where the stud was (in our old house they are not regularly spaced) then he got some brackets at Home Depot that had more than one point to be fastened into the wall. Next he used an old log carrier, filled with weights to equal the weight of the clock. We left this for 24 hours or so. Since the clock is more complicated to hang (cause of the weights) your project differs here. I would copy the similar weight/less valuable item. . . and maybe make a French cleat for the top of the mirror or maybe even two of them for added strength.

What kind of structure is on the back of the mirror? Does it have through bolts, through the glass? How many?

If it doesn’t, is it flat at the bottom & top?

If so, there are stainless steel channels made to screw into the studs, top and bottom. And the mirror is then slid sideways into the channels.

They work quite well, but it’s a two person job getting the mirror picked up and then slid sideways into the channels.

On the back of the mirror install eyelet screws such as the one below on either side of the frame. Use stranded cable wire between the eyelet screws leaving slack in the cable...see picture below. It is available through Amazon and other sources but be sure to check the weight capacity so that it will hold 100 lbs. you will also need cable clamps once you pull the cable through the eyelets to hold the two pieces together (see pic). Put long sturdy screws into the studs (at least 2” with 3” even better. Below is a picture of the finished product. Some of the hardware is different because your picture is very heavy.
