How can I use this surfboard for decoration outside?

I have obtained this surfboard from my grandson and would like to do something with it for outside. As you can see it needs cleaning but have no idea where to start. Would wax clean it up? Or maybe paint it with what type of paint?I would appreciate any ideas. Thank you.

Approx 80 ins long.

One bad damage area. How can that be fixed?

How about turning it into a standing plant stand. Add wire hoops to put planters with a collar in or attach a couple shelves and cut holes to drop planters into so they won't blow off in the wind. Make a stand for the back or attach the board to a fence or fence post (piece of 4 x 4) buried in the ground and cemented to make it sturdy. I'd add the plants below the cool design on it so you can see it.

You could also make it into a garden bench by adding a frame underneath and legs.

Not sure if you could hang it above as a light for the backyard/patio? or use it as a bar top table? For the lights you could just add string lights to the board after you have hung it up. I see you have pallet wood, you could use that for legs or attach to a railing . As for cleaning my boyfriend uses something from the surf shop (we live near the beach and he surfs). I know someone who has a big collection of boards and he made a wall/fence using them, all old, broke not worth fixing. Good luck with creating a use for the board!

  • Boiling water will get all that old wax off, use a spatula to scrape it. I ripped (cut long ways) one in half and used it as shelves in my boys' bedroom. Got some cheap brackets and mounted it to the wall

I just watched Dale Jr. on TV last night, renovating their home in Key West, FL. He placed a surfboard, painted for outdoor living on the wall of an outdoor shower, had faucets, sprayer attached directly to it and it was fabulous! Wish I could find a used surfboard like yours to paint and use to decorate my beach house!

I would use it in a patio by hanging it as ceiling art.

Add two layers of 2x4 across it with 1x2 between the 2x4's. Next make a rotors blade out if tin, old steel coffee can or the blades of an old fan. Paint it & set in a garden, hang it however. You now have a decorative Bi-Plane. Could also drill large hole it two in the wings for potted plants.

I would love to se a picture of what you are talking about.

    Thanks

  • You could wax it, clean it up and then use a stencil to paint something cool on it with summer vibes and then seal it with a waterproof varnish to protect it from the elements.

You could paint it a bright color that works with the color of your house and hang it on the siding. Saw a show where they took an old surf board and used it as portico. Cute idea for a beach house.
