Can vintage barkcloth adhere to mirrored wall with liquid starch?
I have a very large bedroom wall covered in MIRROR from 1990’s. Rather than break it (don’t need bad luck) or using expensive contact paper to cover it, I thought maybe I could follow a liquid starch project I saw here on Hometalk. Obviously, lighter weight material would be optimal; I’m suggesting using vintage barkcloth that I have lying around and would love to use on “something” and thought this would be perfect. I’m afraid the material may not adhere to the mirror with this product. I do not want to use glue for fear of ruining the barkcloth. Thanks

Try using 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. Spray it on the mirror only and apply the cloth. It should stick well and still be removable in the future. If you spray both the mirror and cloth it will be a permanent adhesion like contact cement.

I don't know for sure if the liquid starch will work with the mirror and bark cloth, but as I was looking for an answer for you, I had an idea. Use an old mirror, fabric starch and your bark cloth to run a test project to see if it works well. If you don't have an old mirror, you could use a strip of you wall mirror or pick up an inexpensive mirror at a dollar store. If the test works, you are good to go. If the test doesn't work, then try the adhesive William suggested. I hope this helps. Wishing you the best.
If the starch doesn't work out you could cut long strips of frosted contact paper and hang it vertically and alternate the frosted with strips of exposed mirror. It wouldn't be complete coverage but it would change the look of the wall. Also you could stretch fabric over very large frames (think artist canvas) and hang them over the mirror using command hooks or from the cieling using lite wire. Again, it wouldn't be complete coverage, but it would change the importance of the mirror. And if all else fails you can paint it away.
