How to add peroxide to a water tank from time to time?
My hot water smells. Draining every so often helps. See on internet to add some peroxide. Anode will not come out. Tank about 6 months old. Maybe best to buy a tankless heater?

I had a tankless water heater, hated it. Never had enough hot water and it was just 2 of us.
Tank is only 6 months old. What kind of smell? If draining solves it could be a bad tank. Who installed it? Do you have city or well water?
Sulphur producing bacteria can contaminate hot water heaters, especially those with a magnesium rod. You can kill these bacteria by setting the temperature to above 140ºF for several hours. At the end of that time, drain the tank completely and refill.
Note that these bacteria can reoccur if the water heater temperature is set below 140º. However, the danger of scalding increases exponentially above 120ºF so I do not recommend keeping the temperature that high. http://burnprevention.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Water-temp-chart.jpg The cost of 20 gallons of water (amount used during an average shower) is much less than a new water heater, so this increased-temperature fix is worth trying and even repeating if necessary.
