How can I use plaster to decorate hat boxes?

  • Interesting concept. Have you seen it somewhere? Hatboxes are typically made of cardboard. Plaster is wet. By the time the plaster is dry, you might end up with a misshapen lump. But I certainly could be wrong!

I'm with Naomie, I can't see it working. If you're able to do it, please post the project. Take pictures from beginning to end (and a bunch in the middle).

    Hi Yamanna,

The only thing I can think of would be to dip craft flowers into a thin plaster to create the look of porcelain, then using those to decorate the box. Like the others said, though since hat boxes are usually made from cardboard I'm not sure that they could handle the weight. Good luck.

Try using some of the premixed spackling. I buy it a the dollar tree and a small container. It is not real wet. I recently bought a $1.00 anchor at the dollar tree,

painted it white, and pressed the plaster onto the anchor. Let it set a few minutes, and believe it or not, I used a spiky seashell. to make the indentions on the anchor. let dry over night, and painted it again. Looks great, on my shelf.

Sorry, I don't think the picture on the wall is showing it all. Not sure, what will show up.

    I love to experiment!
