Michelle, do you have a trash can with lid outside or in the garage? If you live alone there can't be too much waste. Just toss it in the can that the trash company takes every week, that would be the sanitary way.

We converted a cabinet next to our sink into a pullout trash can because I hate looking at a trash can in any room. I have done this in every house we have lived in. There is no problem putting your trash can under the sink. If you are worried about smells, rinse your cans, milk containers, and bottles, and rinse leftovers that will go into the trash in a colander before putting into the trash. They also make air fresheners that attach to your trash can, but I haven't really had a problem with smells.

  • Well I live alone too and have my trash can under the kitchen sink for the same reason, house and kitchen is small. Nothing wrong with it. I did it also because I have pets, out of site, out of mind. When I do a lot of cooking with icky trash, I take out before I go to bed. Anything smelly goes out same day. Yesterday I made fish stock. Out it went wen I was done cooking.

Under the sink is no problem, but double wrap any meats, grease and place them in foil, then in plastic bag and keep refrigerated until trash collection day to avoid attracting insects.

Place a good quality shelf liner on the floor of your sink to facilitate cleaning.
