I'd like to try chalk painting wooden furniture. Do I need to strip and sand first?

No !!!! That's the best part of using chalk paint ! If the wood furniture has a high gloss shine , I might use a de glosser like Krud Kutter , I found it at home depot for about $6 . This is just a spray on cleaner that get off years of polish & grease.

    Have fun !!!

Hi Mary, you do not need to strip and sand when using chalk paint.

I'm old school when it comes to painting - I think no matter what the paint company says, you should always do your prep!!! Depending on the finish that is currently on the piece of furniture, you should at least do a light sanding to give it "tooth" for the paint to grab onto. I always, sand, clean and repair before starting a new finish no matter what!!! Here is a blog post that will give you more information: https://www.artisticpaintingstudio.com/

  • Hi Mary! I can tell you how to paint with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint :)

It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle.

Step one: Clean with White Lightning

Step two: Apply two coats of Slick Stick if the surface is slippery, or two coats of BOSS if you are concerned with bleed through. If you don't have either of these concerns then you can just skip this step ;)

Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint

Step four: Use Gator Hide for a water-repellent finish, or any of our clear coats for extra protection

    No sanding required!

Here's a great YouTube tutorial on the basics of using Chalk Mineral Paint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTR0uNvAMs4
