How should I freshen up this master bedroom?

Living is a log home, there is just so much wood! I would like to paint the wood ceiling but not the beams and then do a cream wash on the wood walls and a little more intense color on the other 2 walls. Just do not want to jeopardize the integrity for resale purpose. Thoughts?

Integrity of log home is the wood, for resale I'd leave it alone people buy log homes for "all" the wood.

    Hello!

We too have a log cabin and too much wood is dark and dreary.

We are quite pleased the previous homeowner placed paneling in two bedrooms and painted it a light color. I would suggest not to hesitare to place and paint paneling for a room brightening update. Perhaps dont paint the cross members, if you want the log walls to remain natural they could be boxed in or left natural for removal if required.

I think you’ll be really pleased with your results. Best wishes in your bedroom painting adventure! Heres a helpful link!

Thank you. Two walls are like shipplap - similar to paneling.

I am not a fan of a lot of wood in a house, so you can keep that in mind while express my opinion. Having said that, I think the wood ceiling and beams are stunning, so I would leave them alone. I am going to offer a couple of choices:

    1. Leave the walls if you think the wood on them is important to the integrity of the house and paint some of your bedroom furniture that right now has the wood look.
    2. Paint the walls and the very dark trim. This will truly brighten up your space.
    3. Do a whitewash on the walls. This will break up the wood look, but not really cover them.

My opinion is that you should decorate your house for yourself and not for resale if you are going to be there for several years. Otherwise, you will always live in a house that you are decorating for someone else.

    Best wishes on your project.
