How do you clean outside cushions?

We power washed our outside chair cushions & dried them in the sun. Now, 6 months later after sitting on the front porch (which is covered), they are covered in mildew & grime. Any suggestions on how to clean & dry the cushions so they last longer?

  • Nope, needs to be done periodically, no matter what product you use. I prefer dawn dish soap and vinegar and a bit of baking soda to scrub out a stain, then hose off. Granted I am in zone 9 in Southern California, but they get dirty and dusty and just part of routine maintenance.

Unless you take them in after each use (not at my house! I go in and out all day long), or cover them, that is just the way of the world. Sorry there is no magical solution.

    • So welcome Pat! We just had rain and wind and mine were yucky. Sun came out today so I washed down the cushions on the back patio and set them in the sun to dry. Expecting more rain later this week. Since I just washed the cushions, I will move them to the covered porch during the storm and put back out after.

Add some bleach to water. Some people say vinegar works well too. Next time scrub with that and that may keep the yuckies at bay longer.
