My friend picked up this dresser off of Facebook Marketplace and sent me this photo asking if I could make it pretty again. I said “Sure!” but in my head, I was really hoping it would work. I mean this piece looks nasty don’t you think?!

This is another one that just goes to show you, there is nothing like the power of paint!

The design was going to be a wood top, dark gray base and new knobs. Obviously new knobs.

I started with the top as I almost always do, sanding with my sander all the scratches, scuffs and gunk was gone. I stained the top with my favorite combo a mix of 50/50 General Finishes Water Based Stain Antique Oak & Walnut. It’s just the perfect stain color that goes with everything! {You can see a full tutorial of how I sand down and use this stain on my YouTube Channel here}.

Here’s the top all finished – so much better. I sealed the top with 3 coats of General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in Flat. Perfect finish, every time.

The base was painted in General Finishes Queenstown Gray Milk Paint. It’s a perfect dark charcoal gray. This dresser will go with just about anything now. No matter what her other bedroom decor is or where she may move, this dresser works well in any space.

I found these dark bronze knobs from Amazon. They are just the right about of contrast to the dresser, and again keep it really neutral and classy.

My Supervisor!

That’s a pretty good makeover don’t you think?! See what a difference a little elbow grease (and paint) makes?!
