How do I find someone who can plaster?

I have a house that is over 200 years old and when I ask about plaster everyone tells me it is the same as drywall mudd, yet I know it is different. The plaster is falling off the chimney on the inside of the house in the hall and I need to fix it. I just don't know where to buy the plaster at.

Home Advisor or Angie's List for local contractors

  • Well my mom's house is not nearly that old, it is all lath and plaster. After all my dad's trade contacts retired, moved or passed away, I had to find a plaster professional. It wasn't easy. Many hang themselves out as being proficient, but they are not. After an exhaustive search, Google, flipping through the good old yellow pages, I finally found a guy that was trained in old time and historic techniques. Any home improvement center or hardware store or builders supply will carry plaster. Good luck.

Hi Rose, sorry you are having a difficult time with you plaster walls. You can buy plaster at Lowes, or any other hardware store. If you are looking for someone to do this for you , you may want to ask the people at the hardware stores, they often know reliable people that can do the job. You can also check Angies list or the other one that is free and will give you names of people you can trust. Check ther BBB or ask a friend if they can recommend someone they know will do a good job for you. Good luck. How to Plaster a Wall - Bob Vila
