Hi Sherry, Even though some will disagree, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Sound proofing take place when the walls are put up. They do not make any temporary fixes for noise coming through the walls. You can try things like a bookcase filled with books to muffle the sound a bit.

Hang a Flokati wool rug or similarly thick textiles on the wall. Add bookcases, wide swaths of heavy fabric, or a large section of framed, double sided cork with an insulated panel between, placed against walls. Carpeting with a pad will absorb sound transmitted to your floor.

There are many soundproofing materials if you Google ‘soundproofing a wall’ but it looks like they are either glued or nailed to the wall which won’t work for when you are renting.

You can buy acoustic panels on Amazon that are very decorative and will help soundproof your room. Some are not overly expensive. If you are worried about damaging a wall in your rental use Command poster strips to attach it.
