Ours was insulated using unfaced batts.

I would insulate it. Paper-faced batts give one the ability to staple them to the joists. The paper is by no means a vapor barrier.

If one has high-humidity and mold problems in the basement, put a dehumidifier in the basment with a 24/7 drain hose to either the floor drain or shower drain. Basement mold will get into the rest of the house.

It certainly will not harm anything if you insulate your cieling/floor. If you are going to use bats with a moisture barrier it should face the heated area. However, if your basement is a sealed space with some heat (like from a furnace) it won't matter that much. It may be your personal choice to have the paper/foil side facing the basement so you don't have exposed fiberglas.
