How can I landscape this dry rock bed in front of new home?
Not sure what to do with this dry creek bed directly in front of our new home. Planning on having some kind of plants or a flower garden or maybe even a patio on the flat level area on the left side. The bed does get a lot of water in it during heavy rains and runs directly in front of the entrance, otherwise it stays dry. Thinking maybe a little flat bridge like across the bed leading to the front steps. Need something low maintenance so was thinking of maybe tall grasses, some Liriope, Mondo Grass, Russian Sage or similar. Not sure how they would do when the area is dry instead of wet. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Maybe some Cannas Lilies against the house to break up all the dark stain. Can incorporate lots of Lilies as able to get lots of them for free. Can also get as many Japanese Maples as I want and thinking of putting two of them together in the large flat area for color.
Al you ideas,sound great. Love Japanese maples and lilies. Do 3 maples, always work in odd nimbers,for good design. Love your dry creek bed, maybe exaderate it with more rocks.

Thank you Holly and Kelli. Glad to know I am on the right track. Will check out Pinterest for sure and appreciate the help! Have to have some color and flowers of some kind. Would hate to live without them!
Decide how much weeding you want to do in the creek. If not much then plant perennial wildflowers and grasses in the creek and put the flowers that need more maintenance in beds near the house. I would go for a natural look in the creek, maybe cattails in parts of it and a clump of River birch, not in the creek but near it, over towards the side of the house.
