I am wanting to put in a door with a dog door in a bedroom. I am not sure where best to place it in an exterior wall or even how to go about doing so. Any help would be great. I have a door but don't have a frame.

Hi Lad, the first and foremost worry with cutting a hole in an exterior wall is dealing with support issues. If you put the door in near an interior wall I believe you have a little less to worry about, but, regardless, you will need to find the joists in the ceiling and fully support them. I hope this tutorial helps, good luck! https://extremehowto.com/installing-a-new-exterior-door/

Hello Lad! You will have to determine if you have an exterior wall that has no electrical wiring running across it so that when you cut the opening for the door you don't have to deal with rerouting the electrical. You will need a frame for your door. You will need an exterior door. It might be best to buy an exterior door unit with a frame that already fits the door. It will go in faster and easier than trying to build a frame for the door you already have. You may be able to purchase a door that has a pet door in it. I am not sure if they are available--but consider looking! Another thing to consider is whether or not you will need some steps down to the ground from your door and if you have room for that.

Awesome, thank you for the suggestions. I think finding a door with or even without a dog door in it is a very good suggestion. We have a door we like, but at the same time, trying to frame it might be a big task. Super helpful, thank you. I will look around for exterior doors.
