How to make the space under the deck look more attractive?

We live on a lake and have about 4 foot of space under the deck overlooking the lake. It has posts that support the deck and the back of the space is concrete with a window to the basement bedroom. This is also where the pipe to the sump pump drains. Right now there are some rocks over most of the ground and dirt over the rest of it. Very unattractive.

We would love some ideas that would make this space more appealing and not taking away from the rest of the beautiful lakeside living.

Pam, I would lay down weed barrier and cover that with either river rocks or cedar mulch. Then I would place several spreading junipers, depending on how much room you have. One juniper for every 4 square feet.

Hi. If you're looking for low maintenance contain adding to the existing rocks and making a rock garden with different rocks and sand. No need for any plants.

  • Landscape fabric and tumbled pea gravel or how about concrete stepping stones?

Hi Pam. I'm Cindy. You could attach lattice to the bottom of your deck. Then plant some nice and colorful plants in front of it. The space under the deck could then be used for storage of your water toys.
