How do I keep puppies from peeing on furniture?
I have 2 male chihuahua dogs who like to cock their legs on our furniture legs. They have both been fixed also. Thought that would help with that, but it doesn’t. I have spray to put on the legs of the furniture. It’s for marking territory. Supposed to stop it. Yeah right! Is there something I can put over my furniture legs to protect them?

Did you have a dog before this one? Male dogs love to mark territory. He could be "marking" a scent from another dog, if you had one prior to getting him. Also make dogs have a natural tendency to be " Alphas", and marking is part of it to show dominance. Do not let him have free range of the house until he has stopped marking. limit him to a small area for awhile, and slowly let him gain more range in the house. If he marks again, take away some of his range in the house. Yell loudly "NO" if you see him lift his leg, or if he is in the process of marking. Do not hit him, or rub his nose in it , or yell at him if you did not see him urinating, as it accomplishes nothing, and he will not understand. Make him go outside, and ignore him for 30 minuets after catching him marking. Be sure the actual problem is really marking, and not just using you house for his toilet.
Darlene! I have heard from my niece that chihuahuas do that a lot. Hope you get some helpful tips from reading these. Good luck. I know that has got to be unsettling.

Make sure to clean up the legs and surrounding floor under the legs really well. Try using vinegar to remove the smell of the urine from the legs and on the floor. It will help if they can't smell their own scent on them. Use something like hot sauce painted on the legs, if they don't like that when they smell it and it irritates the nose, they may think twice about using the legs. If they have been urinating on them for a long time, it may be habit and they will continue to use the legs unless perhaps you really start getting on them about the behavior. When they go outside instead of using the table legs, make sure you praise them really well and perhaps give them a small training treat each time. Once the start to realize they get a treat when they go outside and scolded inside, they may stop.
Chihuahuas are notoriously stubborn and take a bit to housebreak. If you are home, take them out every 2 hours during the day. Bitter apple didn't work on my previous male dog, but it did on my current one. After this no more male dogs just for this reason. You have excellent suggestions here. The internet is full of helpful tips, you just need to take the time to sift through them all. Consistency is key. Here are sites to get you started.

I have a now 5 year old female chihuahua mix. She was, hands down, the hardest dog to potty train and stop destructive behavior when teething. She was 3.5 pounds when I acquired her and she literally ate my house in several spots. She is a love bug though, good thing I value life more than stuff . . .
I trained my cats with a water bottle when I catch them doing something and say in a strong voice, "No!"
These are our babies, minus the one under the table
