How do I get tape residue off a primed wall?

we had taped a yoga poster to a wall that had only been primed, years ago, now we want to paint and there is a lot of tape residue. I would like to know how to remove double-sided tape residue on the wall without harming the sheetrock?

April,. I asked my carpenter husband, it depends on what type of tape you used. Try peeling it off slowly if you can. Whatever is left, use Goo Gone sparingly. But, think about the taped you used, and go from there. Aloha!
April...Goo Gone is a great product but I wood just try small sections at a time.
Goo Gone is my first choice. But in a pinch, I have used WD40! Yes! WD40! It takes off gooey adhesives from anything. I just sprayed it on a paper towel and rubbed away the yuk! Goo was all gone. But I still prefer the Goo Gone! It smells so much nicer. LOL
