How important is it to replace the in wall heater in my master bath as opposed to having the non-functioning old one removed and the wall space redrywalled????

In wall heaters are not regularly found, in today's bathrooms.

Unless your insulation in this room is so poor that supplemental heat is absolutely necessary, I'd remove it, insulate the space, then replace the drywall.

If you need more stoage, you might make small shelves in this space, with framing as needed.

It's personal preference. Not required to have a heater but it's really nice in winter.

You could leave it and get a portable heater
