How do I replace carpet stairs with wood?

    Rip out the carpeting. Carefully scrape any carpet glue from surface.Sand to bare wood to remove any residue. Restain and seal with 3 coats of Maring grade polyurethane, or similar.

    If treads or risers need replaced, you can locate these at home stores and lumberyards.

  • Remove the carpet and see what you have to work with. You can easily replace stair treads to be stained and sealed or painted. Risers can be embellished in countless ways depending on your taste and style.

    I have researched this a ton for our stairs. I'd recommend getting on Youtube, searching "replace carpet on stairs with wood treads" and watching the tutorials!
