Should I paint my cement patio that gets lots of leaves that leave stains all year and if so what kind of paint and what color is best?

    Hi, Carolee,

You didn't mention your location or the types of leaves involved.

When wet, certain types of leaves leave very dark surface stains .

If you paint your patio with a good grade of outdoor cement designed for use under your specific conditions and apply a top quality concrete sealer, the color should not matter.

It is always prudent to remove fallen leaves from cement as soon as possible, to avoid stains and falls, particularly in wet or snowy/icy conditions.

Garage floor paint would work. Pick a color that is complimentary to your house. You will need to repaint periodically once you start, so you will still have a fair amount of maintenance, but it should be more resistant to leaf stains.

Another, more resilient, option would be to use concrete stain and use a darker color that won't show the leaf tannins.
