How tall is bead board supposed to be hung?

I saw bead board hung approx. 3/4 up the wall and would like to do that, my husband says it will look silly. Are there rules as to how high bead board should be hung or is it simply preference?

Look on Pinterest. I've seen it 3/4 up and like that look for a large house. Some are chair bar height. I used the height if the window base to determine its height. I'm now adding a small amount of board and batten determined by the height of a short entryway wall, 38" for the lower horizontal piece and the top of the door for the top horizontal piece.

It's personal preference. I've seen it chair height. I've seen it half way up. I've seen it 3/4 up. I've seen it horizontal. I've seen it angle on a feature wall. I've seen herringbone pattern on feature wall. There are no rules. Lot of creative people out there.

    I like this look.

  • Hi Lori, I would also agree there are several heights. I would base the height on which room you are putting it in. If it is going in a living room I would put it about couch/chair height or slightly higher. If its going in a bathroom you could go all the way up to the ceiling. It its in a hallway I would put it at least a 1/3 up the wall. Have fun with your project!

Good design works on a 1/3rd rule . Never go just 1/2 way , looks awkward. Go 1/3 Or 2/3
