How do I choose the right paint for floors?

Hi Dee, make sure whatever paint you buy is meant specifically for floors. It's usually oil based to handle high traffic volumes

Use a primer like Kiltz first then paint and then layer with polyethylene- as many layers as you like. I recommend atbleadt 2-3 letting them dry in between. (A fan n help to dry- leave 24 hours in between if possible is best) some put many more layers.

Being successful in painting a floor is part to do with the prep - so depending on what the sub-straight is (concrete, linoleum, tile, etc) - you will want to clean and prime the surface - allow to dry for at least 24-48 hours. I have used different paints to create my base, then stenciled, used a roller, etc to create some pattern and design - once all the creative part is complete, then try BenMoore Stay Clear. But, no matter how good all the products are today - I would anticipate maintenance on a painted floor. Meaning, you will need to clean the floor well and put a few more coats of Stays Clear on every year depending on how much foot traffic you have in this area.
