You can make your own faux stained glass paint using water colors, food coloring, or paint mixed with school glue.

Thanks. My problem was clear Elmer's glue rather than just regular glue. I also found some already colored glue that worked out pretty well

Hi Suzy. I'm Cindy. Begin by cleaning the piece of glass - both sides. Then mix black paint with glue. Use the glue bottle as your applicator. That will make it easier to control the pressure. This black glue will be thick and will act as the lines of your stained glass. Next, put your picture under the glass. Draw all the lines on top of the glass with the glue bottle. Allow to dry for 24 hrs. Then fill in between your black lines with paint. Some people use adult coloring books to find pictures for their stained glass projects. Good luck Suzy.

Ok I think I tried everything BUT regular Elmer's glue. I was using clear Elmer's mixed w puff paint food coloring or acrylic paints. I wanted it thicker. Regular glue was the trick to start w a thicker base.
