Start by cleaning with soap and water.

A mild bleach/water solution (1 teaspoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water); let the bleach solution stand for 5-15 minutes. Rinse until all bleach odor is gone. Air dry.

Or straight white distilled vinegar; let it stand for about 10 minutes. Rinse and air dry.

Or straight hydrogen peroxide; let it stand for about 10 minutes. Rinse and air dry.

Use a baby bottle cleaning wand/brush with warm, soapy water...let sit then rinse and dry.

I would be hesitant about using any amount of bleach to clean a plastic drinking flask. Many brands of bleach leave a strong lingering smell, and, depending on the porosity of the plastic, you may have a larger problem on your hands with the unappetizing odor!

I put all plastic drinkware in the dishwasher on a full cycle with hot water.

Afraid I haven't got a dishwasher. I can use Milton (used for sterilising baby bottles) however I am more interested in cleaning - particularly the inside "shoulder" of the flagon which I can't get to with a bottle brush or dish mop...

Oh yes, I had though perhaps that was the case. Is there any possibility of getting a very tiny baby-sized toothbrush inside?

You can get really tiny brushes that are marketed to clean hummingbird feeder. They also have handles that can be bent.

Try a squirt of liquid dishwasher detergent, add hot water and let it soak for a few minutes. The gunk inside will usually flake off and come to the top.
