How do I fix my tile floor problem?

I recently bought a house that has everything to finish the bathroom in the basement. All the plumbing is in and just needs to be finished. My problem or challenge is that I want to tile the bare concrete floor, however, the drain pipe for the water softener runs diagonal to a drain on the floor in this room. How do I tile the floor with this PVC pipe running across the floor. I'd like to hide this pipe and not have to step over it all the time. Do I have to raise the floor and if so, how. Thanks in advance.

Ron, your best option is to re-route the pvc pipe. Working with pvc is fairly easy and it should never have been run through your rough bathroom area by the installer. I'm not sure what options you have as I can't see your basement layout, but at the very least it should be run at clean 90 degree angles to the drain.

Laura is right in what she says. I’d just add another option. You can break out a trough in the concrete to lay the pipe in. Lay the pipe and put concrete over it. I would recommend putting the pipe down deep enough so you can put three or four inches of concrete over it.

Zard has the correct suggestion. Don't raise the floor just lower the pipe. You can chip away a trough in the concrete floor about one inch deeper than the pipe. Sink the pipe in the trough and cover with fresh concrete.
