Dressing up an ordinary canister to make it look extraordinary.

Dollar store bead stickers

This little container was from the Dollar store but it didnt fit my decor. So I changed it!

I took the lid off the container and washed it and dried thoroughly.

  1. I found some pearl looking bead stickers. I stuck them all around my canister. This will add texture and interest to the canister.
  1. After I stuck the beads into the canister I gathered some newspaper to protect my floor and used silver metallic spray paint to cover my canister. Some people use chalk paint for that matte finish and some use a gloss. You can let your mind have fun and choose whatever color or texture you desire.
Silver metallic paint

While the canister was drying I worked on the lid. I find the flat screw top canisters a little hard to unscrew and open (I have arthritis) so I decided to use an old cabinet knob and attach to the top of the lid.

I carefully screwed the screw under the lid and adhered the knob to the top. You can also create something really neat by using glass knobs or whimsical knobs too.

Adding the knob to the lid.

Looks alot better

After the paint was dry, I sprayed a second coat to make sure I received the color I wanted and to coat the whole canister.

Once dry it was ready to use.

Now I think I want to do a few more for around the house! This would be a great gift as well. Fill it with candy, treats, dog bones etc.
