Need a little organization in your live and love a great DIY project?

Shop your thrift stores and yard sales for a piece you can upcycle or repurpose!

Whenever I thrift shop, I use my best hacks to find some great pieces, and one of them is my criteria list.

It isn't anything complicated - just a few things I always look for in a piece that makes it a great deal for me:

  • a unique shape or size
  • can easily be transformed with paint
  • has the ability to be repurposed
  • is made from metal

When I saw this wall hanging, it fit three of them: it has a unique shape, and it was practically begging for some paint. Plus, I was pretty sure I could give it a brand new use too.

I started by dressing it up with some fresh silver spray paint on the frame, and a basic white over the front - just to give it a good prime.

Next I decoupaged a couple of pieces of printed fat quarter material to the top and bottom.

I found a cork board at Hobby Lobby that fit the opening perfectly, and played around with the placement until I got it where I liked it.

I decided to paint it to give it a more cohesive look, then glued it to the middle of the frame.

Now I have a handy command center to keep track of all the things going on!

Outdated pieces have so much potential when you thrift shop! Learning to build a criteria list will open up all kinds of great projects for you that you may not even notice without one.
