Usually I see those as decor item and they are in a grouping.

You can fill the sphere with a growing medium for sedums, insert plants, then mist lightly and hang from a sturdy support.
Above answer is great! another idea is wrap small LED (white or colored) around the sphere and use as an outdoor (or inside) light feature.
