Used a heat gun to get the thick stuff up with scrapers, wash up with lacquer thinner.

Hi Jim. Sorry your are having problems removing the left over glue. Hope this is helpful. To remove excess mastic after the tiles have been removed, soak several cloths in water and lay them over the mastic. Let the water soak into the mastic until it becomes soft. Then, scrape off the remaining adhesive with a putty knife.Dec 15, 2018

We have painted concrete floors - LOVE them!!! 1800 sq feet of painted concrete. When we pulled up the carpet, padding and carpet tacks and one sheet vinyl. We used HOT water and fabric softner in a spray bottle and a 4 inch scraper to remove the glue on the floor. We had tile in the foyer that we pulled up. Filling in the carpet tack holes DAP Vinyl patch worked the best - adhered to the concrete and was able to get a smooth finish.

The fastest way I've found is to rent a Floor Scraper from Home Depot. It makes quick work of the removal. The dust will make a mess, though. Cover your furniture and be prepared for a deep clean of blinds, woodwork, baseboards, etc.
