I need a cheap, quick DIY idea for an old house temporary fix up for the cold... is there anything I can use around the house to insulate behind panelling.

Blue jeans, newspaper, wool have all been used for insulation.

      Hi, Linda,

Your paneling would need removed, prior to inserting any insulation. It would be better to crumple, then place behind paneling, stacking it as you go, to fill in voids that emit air entry.

To save you work, it would be easier (as Kelli wrote) to hang heavy blankets over the wall paneling. Next Spring, think about installing batt insulation between wall studs, behind paneling.

Nothing behind paneling without removing it. Decorative rugs hung on walls was not just for looks. Love the dogs playing poker HA HA

    Hi Lynda,

Yes, you could use blankets or rugs and hang them on your wall.Another real insulation option for paneling is blown in insulation. Yes, it will take some work, time & money, but you won't have to do it every year. Wishing you the best.

If you are removing the paneling just go ahead and install batting insulation. Will pay for itself quickly on utilities.

If you can get to the space behind your paneling you really should use actual insulation, either bats or ridgid foam. It really is easy to install insulation and requires only a few tools.
