Our GE built-in microwave oven has stopped heating. All other systems appear to work. What needs to done to get it to work or does it need to be replaced?

The Magnetron has failed or burned out. That is the heart of a microwave. Guess it's time to replace it.

Bob...Microwaves have gone down in price so much. l believe you can replace easier and maybe less expensive than a repair might be. Should you not be able to find one that fits exactly you might select a smaller one and just finish the space as if it is a shelf. I think that would work well. Good luck!

They aren't that expensive. Buy a new one.

Oh boy...did we just do that! We remodeled our kitchen..in taking down the microwave something must have gone amok..micro didnt work after that and it was only a couple of years old. Called appliance repair..same advice..repairing it would be almost as much as buying a new one. So. ...you might call a repair place to get a price..but just remember, obsolescence is built into appliances any more. The former owners put in new but cheap appliances ..I am holding my breath as to which appliance will die first. They didn’t do us any favors. Dish washer is so cheap I treat it with kid gloves. The stove top rattles and heat pours out of the stove so you can barely touch it. 😡😡😖

    Bob,

I feel your pain. Repair or replace? Even if you do repair it there is no guarantee how long it will last. Might be time to bite the bullet for a new one.
