Put a piece of furniture there..

  • Did you pay this person? If so, why? Who cares if he feels it is complete. Obviously it is not. Something was not measured properly going all the way back to the framing stage. You have two choices. Live with it or ask him to redo. If he refuses, file a complaint with your state contractors license board. Then hire a construction defect attorney and go after him and his license. When settlement is reached, used the funds to hire a qualified licensed contractor to rip it out and start over. Here is how to hire a contractor. If you are in CA, let me know and I can send the CA site.

I agree with the placement of furniture to camouflage the area. Anything else you will do no will be expensive and messy. It looks like the contractor did not square the wall before building.

This is on your contractor...if he needs to rip it out to repair prooerly snd make it clear that it's at his cost. You didn't pay for amatuer's workmanship.

What did he think he was doing, anyway? As if this sloppy job wouldn't be noticed?

Hopefully, you've not given him final payment.

If he's licensed, you may want to clarify that if repairs are not immediately effected, you'll take legal action (calling your Attorney General's office, Better Business Bureau, social websites, etc.).

Jackie, I'd seriously pursue having the contractor remedy this work. If you ever have to sell your property, you will face the prospect of losing many potential buyers, because visible or not, this issue will have to be disclosed.

Permitting this contractor to leavevyou with shoddy work only permits him to repeat this, elsewhere. I'd post his name, his license number, and anything else I had on him, on every social media avaikable. You might also want to contact your local media if you fail to receive any satisfactort remediation or remuneration.
