Learn how to craft etched mason jars and other glass containers for beautiful storage containers, reusable mason jar gift containers, pretty DIY home decor or decorative drinking glasses for seasonal or holiday parties. Hunter and I made pretty etched mason jars with star shapes to use for home craft storage and organizing. However, the function of the final product is all up to you!

Let's just say when Hunter and I tried our hand at glass etching, it wasn't quite what we expected. We completed bombed our first attempt at etching a set of stemless champagne flutes. So on our second try we opted for using (less expensive) mason jars instead.

You can discover our tips for etching glass using etching cream via the original post for DIY etched mason jars here. (Along with how to salvage your mistakes.)

To create your own etched mason jars, you'll first need to decide on your design. Hunter and I used star stickers. Pretty much those stickers you got for doing a great job on your homework when you were in elementary school. Letters and other stickers with shapes work as well.

Once you've chosen your stickerns, start by apply them to a clean glass surface.

Then apply a thick coat of etching cream over entire outside surface of the mason jar. Allow the etching cream to set for at least fifteen minutes.

After 15-20 minutes, rinse the etching cream off the mason jar by running it under warm water. Once all of the etching cream comes off, remove the stickers and wash the mason jar.

That's it! Simply dry off your etched mason jar and it's ready to put to use.

You can make multiple etched mason jars with the etching cream. So while the etching cream is a little pricey up front, the etched mason jars become less expensive with the more you make.

An easy way to decorate your etched mason jar is to cut out a small strip from a brown paper kraft label. Apply the sticker paper around the mouth of the jar. Then wrap bakers twine over and around the kraft sticker paper several times before tying it off in a bow.

I'd love to hear your ideas for using your etched mason jars! So be sure to share them in the comments. Also don't forget to check out my blog, Soap Deli News, for more great projects and ideas!
