Carpeting with rug pad is your best safety option. Stair treads and not skid strips will not prevent serious injuries should someone contact edge of tread when falling.

Hi ! There is a large selection on Amazon.com . Also another suggestion is maybe put up a second handrail on the other side . And I don't know if you wear hi focal glasses , but I have heard from quite a few people , that they are dangerous to wear when navigating stairs !

If you've experienced several falls on stair carpeting, it may have been poorly installed, or too deep of pile. Stair carpeting should be so secure there is no movement.

Perhaps you need a lower pile carpet. Shag/deep pile carpeting is not advised for stairways, to preclude tripping/falls.

It would be prudent to install dual handrails, if you've not already done so.
