Do you have cats or dogs in the house? Do you cook with strong aromatics? Is there a smoker in the house? Then you are "gone" a want to know this.

This 3-Pack Naturally Activated Bamboo Air Purifier Bags sells on the internet for about $25 and professes to remove odors such as pet odors, spoiled spilt milk and smoke. We have a smoker in the house and whenever guests arrive, I can see them react to the odors. These three bags, just didn't seem adequate enough so I decided to try my own method. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Right?

My first attempt was taking a pretty basket, lined with an old cotton placemat, and then adding regular Kingsford charcoal to the bottom (not bamboo charcoal). Use containers that have as much exposure to the air as possible.

I then added some pretty posies casually across the top. This I can place just about anywhere in the house.

I particularly like this container because it is very open. Lined with a colorful, flowery print, layered in the charcoal. Done and done.

This one is not so pretty as it is practical. If you have cats/kitties, you might place this in the litter-box area. The holes in this container provides plenty of aeration and maximum exposure.

These are but a few ideas for placing and displaying your "air freshening" charcoal. All in all, I've used a 10 lb bag of charcoal in a variety of containers and placed them throughout the house - bathroom, kitchen, closets, and living areas. Do they work as well as the bamboo charcoal? I'd say definitely YES!

All the containers and fabrics I used were on-hand. Be creative! Fill a sock, a knit beanie hat, cut the arms off an old sweater, twist and tie the ends. The possibilities are endless...
