I took the opportunity to teach my daughter about conservation and recycling with this fun bird feeder craft project, because it's never too early to teach your kids to be good stewards of the earth! We turned our empty TP rolls into biodegradable bird feeders. My daughter enjoyed it so much, she continues to save our rolls now!
These feeders were easy to make, and inexpensive!
First, I formed the tubes into feeders by cutting slits with a craft knife, and puffing them up into lantern shapes. You could also skip shaping them and just use the tube as it is. Punch a pair of holes at the top for stringing it.
Then, I let her take over! We spread them with a thin coat of honey (you could also use peanut butter). Then, she rolled them in the birdseed.
She's only 3 and I found this to be perfect for her skill level, so it's a craft for even young kids - even if it's a little messy. (Just cover your work surface with newspaper and get ready to vacuum, haha.)

Carol Zon Sep 4, 2017I love this idea, and actually made one recently, out of a toilet paper roll. I'm in Calif, and must have had a jay or some other larger bird, come by to dine...the next morning, the feeder was gone, and I never found it in my patio!! The twine I used to hang it was still dangling
there. I didn't really mind, but thought I'd share the story!![Jodie]()
