Will polyurethane prevent rust on steel?

If I remove rust from steel, and then apply poly., will that prevent rust?

    You have to stop the rust first. Use Rustoleum rust converter. Then spray paint. If for outside, polyurethane is not exterior rated.

    Only IF you make sure that ALL the rust (pit) is entirely removed. Then I personally would us a compatible primer under the paint. If you will go to a nearby AUTO REPAIR (body and paint) shop and ask them. More like as not they will tell you the same.

    Never used it for that. May not last. Would probably crack and flake off. Especially if it would be outdoors. I would try Helmsman Spar Urethane. You can also try Rustoleum clear spray paint.
