Take one of the cabinet doors to the paint department of the home improvement store and ask them to select paint/stains and other finishes and application tools that will work for your kitchen. They have the best selection, the most up-to-date materials and most important, the most informative sales staff to get you what you need for a professional job.

Wash down with TSP and then sand the sheen off and prime with Oil based primer. Paint with Oil based paint.

I used Valspar cabinet paint from Lowe’s and had it tinted a dark grey...it will take 3 to 4 coats of paint but they look great. There is a learning curve with the paint, the first coat needs to be painted on thin and let dry 8-12 hrs between coats. Once it is cured the paint has a hard nail polish like feel. They are holding up well and best of all the clean up is soap and water! My Cabinets were the old laminate type not wood.

Prep is key! Make sure you wash everything down really well, take off the doors, scuff sand with 220 grit sandpaper and wipe off all the dust.

Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim and Door Enamel paint is used by alot of cabinet refinishers. It's durable and easy to use. Or benjamin moore Advance is a great paint too!
