How do I get light in closet when do not want to use a battery option?

If you don't want to run electrical service, you could use an extension cord and put a light on the wall or hang from the ceiling. You can try to find a light fixture that is a pendant with a chain that has a cord ran through it. My parents have one of those in their living room.

We had ours hard wired thru the door frame. Comes on when door opens goes off when door closes.

How about a small lamp and a extension cord

Don't know if it would fit in with your decorating style, but you could hang rope LED lights or LED string lights.
