Make use of old pantyhose and those old or odd socks.

Fold one leg over on the other and smooth them flat. Cut off the panty part off.

Now cut the legs horizontally into 1 inch width bands.

Give each of the bands a good stretch; this will make the edges curl in giving them a finished look.

Now gather 15 to 20 bands together to form the tassel.

Take a single loop and hook it through the the bands.

Pull the loop tight to bind the the bands.

Take another loop and wrap it around the bands to gather the top of the loops below the first band you used to bind them together. This part is a little tricky. You can cut the band and tie it on if it’s easier.

cut the bottom of the bound up loops to finish the tassel.

If the finished tassel looks textured it’s because I’ve shown a tassle I’d made previously from a textured sock. I decided to use the pantyhose loops for stretchy bands. If there’s a high content of spandex in them they make great replacements for rubber bands, and unlike rubber bands they don’t break when they get too stretched or too old.

I’ve attached this tassel to my purse. Now back to the unused panty that was cut off the pantyhose; it can also be cut into bands slightly wider and used to bind up sleeping bags. I don’t have a photo of that though.
