How To Make a Lucky Leprechaun Planter

Do you have a shoe hiding somewhere in your cupboard that's lost it's mate? My hubby has loads of them. You see one of our fur babies has a shoe fetish, and more specifically a left shoe fetish icon So there's a whole bunch of lonely right shoes just waiting for someone to wave a magic wand and turn it into somethings else. With St Patrick's day coming up it seemed like the perfect opportunity to repurpose one of those shoes into this lucky leprechaun planter

It's a fun and pretty easy project to do and I'd love to share the tutorial with you. All you need besides the shoe is a small pot that will fits nicely inside the shoe......

...... some green spray paint, tin foil, wire, masking tape, moss, glue and a ribbon. Give the shoe a good wipe to get rid of any dirt and mask off the sole of the shoe. Cut a piece of wire that’s twice the length of your shoe and push it into the toe and bend the tip over a little bit.

Tear some aluminum foil into strips and stick it onto the toe of the shoe. Wrap some more strips around the wire to form a "hornish" shape as shown below.

Spray paint the whole thing green.

Once the paint dries, remove the masking tape from around the sole and glue moss all over the shoe. We used E6000. It's waterproof and is gooey enough to grab all those mossy bits.

Add a pretty ribbon and buckle and your lucky leprechaun planter is ready. We planted some bright and cheery pansies in ours.

I would love to know what you think of the planter. Is it something you would make for your garden?

What would you plant in yours? Oh, and if you have moss leftover you can make an adorable little toadstool too. And if your moss fades after a few years, this easy recipe will revive it in no time.

What kind of moss, craft store or nursery

Thanks so much, Debbie. I bought the moss for the leprechaun shoe at the craft store, but our nursery sells the same "Craft Moss" in bigger bags, so it's probably worth shopping around. The moss is preserved so unfortunately won't grow.
